Applying for Fall Housing (2024-2025)

Welcome to Residential Life at North Carolina Central University! We are excited you have decided to live on campus this academic year. We believe the residential experience is just as important and impactful as your academic experience. It is our hope that you can live with other NCCU students to build a community that values academic success, leadership, personal growth, becoming a global citizen, and forging life-long friendships.

Students go through the Fall Housing application and selection process based on their student type. The chart below was created to assist you in identifying your student type.

 

Student Status

Description

New First-Time Freshman

A student who has not attended a college or university since high school graduation. Early college high school graduates who have not completed college courses after graduation from high school are considered new first-time freshmen.

Required to attend SOAR

Transfer Student

A student who was previously enrolled at a college or university (this does not include dual enrollment courses).

Required to attend SOAR

Second-Degree-Seeking Student (other than NCCU)

A student who has graduated with a bachelor’s degree from an institution other than North Carolina Central and is pursuing a second bachelor’s degree.

Required to attend SOAR

Continuing Student

Any student who was enrolled at NCCU the previous semester. This also includes the following students. Readmit students are considered continuing students.

Graduate or Law Student

A student that is pursuing their graduate or law degree.

Second-degree-seeking students are included in the graduate and law student category.

Note: Students who attended NCCU as an undergraduate students and will be transitioning to graduate or law status may not be reflected in the Residential Life management system until after graduation. Students who fall into this category should contact Residential Life to ensure they are placed properly in our system. 

Assignments are based on building availability at the time of assignment. Building availability is split between the various student types to assist staff in ensuring there is enough space for students mandated to live on campus via the on-campus residency requirement. Additional buildings may be opened to accommodate students as needed.

Info Accordions

All students registered for classes with less than 60 credit hours must live in a university-operated residence hall. A student who is required to live in a university-operated residence hall may receive an exemption to the on-campus residency requirement in limited circumstances. For more information about the on-campus residency requirement and exemptions, please review the On-Campus Residency Requirement Policy.

New first-time freshmen must go through the Before You SOAR checklist to complete their housing application.

Below is the housing application timeline for all new first-time freshmen applying for housing to begin in the Fall semester. During the application process, students must select four building preferences. Assignments are based on room availability at the time of assignment. New first-time freshmen will also be permitted to make roommate requests during the application process. Fulfillment of roommate requests is based on availability at the time of assignment.

There is a $150.00 application fee due at the time of application for new first-time freshmen.

Roommate Week:

Window for students to establish a roommate group. Students will not be able to establish a roommate group after this period. Students that are in theme housing groups will only be able to establish roommate groups with other students who are participants of the same theme housing community.

June 14, 2024

Assignment Day

The assignment date for all new first-time freshmen who completed the housing application by May 31, 2024.

Applications received on or after May 31, 2024, will be assigned on Fridays beginning June 21, 2024

Second-degree-seeking students whose first degree was obtained at an institution other than NCCU must go through the Before You SOAR Checklist to complete their housing application or housing exemption.  

There is a $150.00 application fee due at the time of application for all transfer and second-degree-seeking students.

Assignment Day

Assignment Date for all transfers and second-degree-seeking students and who completed the housing application by May 31, 2024. Transfers and second-degree-seeking students are assigned to a block of predetermined rooms and will not have the ability to select housing.

Applications received on or after May 31, 2024, will be assigned on Fridays beginning June 21, 2024.

Continuing and readmitted students must be registered for Fall courses prior to completing the housing application. Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor and register as early as possible if they plan to stay on campus.

A non-refundable $150.00 application fee will be added to the student e-bill upon completion of the housing application. Once housing has reached its capacity the housing application will close, and students may be directed to a waitlist application. Please note housing could reach its capacity prior to the application deadline date.  Housing applications completed after the deadline below will be manually assigned by the Residential Life office based on availability at the time of assignment.

Manual assignment for students who were eligible for room selection but failed to complete the room selection process during the room selection process.

Residential Life strives to place graduate and law students in communities with others in their degree programs. In the Fall semester, there are a limited number of reserved spaces for graduate and law students. After all reserved spaces have been assigned, the remaining graduate and law students may be assigned with undergraduate students.

The deadline for graduate and law school students to apply is May 31. Please note housing could reach its capacity for graduate and law students prior to the application deadline date. Once housing has reached its capacity, the housing application will close, and students may be directed to a waitlist application.

There is a $150.00 application fee due at the time of application for all graduate and law students.

Students who participate in a themed housing community are guaranteed spaces a specific building if they meet the required deadlines. For more information on housing, go to the Residential Life website. All students in special population and themed groups must complete a housing application through the housing portal by the deadline to claim their guaranteed space.

All continuing students who have not fulfilled the Campus Residency Requirement Policy must complete the housing application or housing exemption form during this period.

April 5, 2024

Application deadline at 11:59 p.m. All continuing students in a special population or themed housing group who wish to claim their guaranteed spaces in housing must complete their application and payment by 11:59 p.m.

April 8–12, 2024

Roommate Week:

In some instances, the facilitator has chosen to manually assign students and choose their roommates. Students participating in communities in which the facilitator has chosen the manual process will not be able to establish roommate groups.

April 16–18, 2024

 

Continuing students participating in a theme housing community or special population will go through self-selection or manual assignment to select a room within their respective community. The Office or Department decides whether the student will go through self-selection or manual assignment.

May 31, 2024
