Classes will appear in Canvas no later than the first day of the semester. If you register for a class during the add/drop period, you will have access to the Canvas course shell within 3 hours after registering.

No. The instructor will provide and post a syllabus in Canvas. The syllabus will define log-in day and time, class participation guidelines/policy, and assignment deadlines. Students are expected to log in to the Canvas course shell the first day of the semester. Failure to log in or participate in the course within the first week may result in the student being dropped for non-attendance by the instructor.
Yes. Our Continuing Education office offers non-credit courses that are self-paced. For more details, please call 919-530-7620. Distance Education does not offer self-paced courses.

Only students belonging to the specific cohort may enroll in a cohort course.

No. Students are urged to keep constant check on their myEOL accounts. Holds should be resolved prior to registration.
Yes. The Faculty Den provides technical support, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., via 919-530-7667. After 5 p.m. and on weekends, students can call the Canvas Helpdesk (24/7 helpdesk) at 919-530-7667.

Newly admitted students classified as freshmen, sophomores, or transfer students, please contact the University College at 919-530-6129. Students classified as juniors and seniors, please contact your respective academic department. Students enrolled in a distance education degree program, please contact the Distance Education coordinator assigned to your degree program.
Once a student gains access to Canvas, they will have access to the Student Orientation Course located in Canvas. The Student Orientation course is a comprehensive online training program that prepares students to operate in the Canvas course environment. Face-to-face Canvas training is not offered.

Canvas is a web-based learning management system, or LMS. It is used by NCCU faculty, staff, educators, and students to access and manage online course learning materials and communicate about skill development and learning achievement.
Canvas includes a variety of customizable course creation and management tools, course and user analytics and statistics, and internal communication tools.
Yes. Distance Education courses have their own tuition and fees schedule. The distance education tuition and fee schedule is located on the Student Accounting website.
A cohort is a group of students targeted to complete a specific degree or specialized license in a specified sequence and timeframe. The students are registered for particular course(s) during a given term and year.
No. The distance education staff members do not provide academic advising. All students need to seek advisement from their academic advisor or respective academic department.
