Library Sanitation Concerns

NCCU students deserve to study in a library that has been cleaned consistently, thoroughly, and daily.

But as a 2008 grad, contributing alum, and Fall 2023 graduate student who frequents the James E. Shepard Library's second-floor "Quiet Zone" (at least eight times in the past few weeks), I feel unsafe due to what I observed as a consistent failure to sanitize the cubicle areas.

Over several days, I have seen the same wrappers, stains, and crumbs littered about the surfaces and floors of these areas. While one could say that students should execute more respectful eating and cleaning practices, the simple matter remains that the university holds a supreme duty to ensure students can study and learn in a safe and healthy environment, especially in the COVID era.

I am disappointed to see something so basic and essential to this ecosystem go disregarded. I hope someone will listen and fix this discrepancy -- because the current status is untenable and unacceptable.

Respectfully,

Sean Kornegay
