Join us Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. in Farrison-Newton Communications 336 for a showcase of NCCU alumnae interviewed for “Purpose, Persistence, and Power: Pioneering African American Women and Their Fight for Justice in North Carolina and Beyond” grant funded by the Mellon Foundation.
Twelve women (History, Business, Political Science, Sports Medicine, Information Technology, English, Mass Communications, Public Health, and Criminal Justice majors) have interviewed two judges, one law professor, two principals, one ambassador, and the BRITE building founder as part of NCCU's first oral history archive.
The students were enrolled in WGST 3610: Digital Archival Research in Women's History, a special seminar where they earn a stipend and academic credit to read books, watch documentary films, take field trips, and conduct an interview about a justice-seeking Black woman alumna of NCCU. They learn digital storytelling, oral history collecting, question-writing, archival research, listening, videography, transcribing, and recording skills. Each profile will be 9 minutes long; the students have practiced and rehearsed oral presentation skills.
Five of these impressive alumna will be present for this celebratory ceremony. Refreshments will be served!
