The North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Institute for Homeland Security and Emergency Management (IHSEM), in partnership with Durham County Emergency Management and North Carolina Emergency Management, cordially invites members of the NCCU campus community and the public to participate in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training Course (NC-317) on September 25–27, 2026.
The CERT Basic Training Course prepares volunteers to assist their communities before, during, and after disasters. Participants will gain essential knowledge and hands-on skills in disaster preparedness, fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster medical operations, and team organization. CERT provides a nationally recognized framework for volunteer training and organization, enabling community members to effectively support emergency response efforts while allowing professional responders to focus on more complex and critical tasks.
Through CERT, participants help strengthen local preparedness, response, and recovery capabilities and contribute to building more resilient communities. Individuals of all abilities are encouraged to attend.
