
The 29th annual Earlie E. Thorpe Memorial Lecture will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Hubbard-Totten Building Auditorium on the NCCU campus. Dr. Edward Baptist, Professor of History at Cornell University, will deliver this year’s lecture.
Dr. Baptist is the author of two prize-winning books: The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism (2014) and Creating an Old South: Middle Florida’s Plantation Frontier Before the Civil War (2002). His talk is titled "Police Citizens and Public Enemies: White Settler Colonists, African Fugitives, and Black Life.” Admission is free and open to the public. Following the lecture, there will be a reception in Edmonds Classroom Building Room 201B.
