
Please join alumna, retired television executive and author Evelyn Smith Booker as she discusses her new book titled “A Winner in Spite of…,” on Thursday, March 24, at 2:30 p.m.
From a humble beginning in Nakina, North Carolina, Booker became the first African American female to sell television for WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, and was promoted to local sales manager of WB Affiliate under Capitol Broadcasting’s umbrella. Booker served as the general sales manager of FOX-TV, managing a local and national team with offices throughout the United States with record-breaking sales generating millions of dollars. In addition, Booker was named salesperson of the year four times.
Booker and her sister were the first black students to integrate the school system in 1965 in Columbus County, North Carolina. She is married and the mother of two daughters and has five grandchildren.
