Join us for a session entitled "Rural School Counselors Broaching Conversations on Race with Students," presented by Drs. Regina Gavin Williams, Alyx Beckwith and Helen Lupton-Smith. The event will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, from 1 to 2 p.m.
There is a need for data exploring the experiences of rural school counselors around advocacy issues (Grimes et al., 2013). This session will highlight the results of a qualitative focus group study in which the presenters explored rural school counselors’ experiences broaching conversations on race and ethnicity with students. Participants’ barriers to broaching and the support rural school counselors might need to engage in broaching conversations on race and ethnicity with students will be shared.
