Dr. Jordan taught at NCCU for more than 27 years and was the founder and chairman of the NCCU Department of History. Mrs. Carrie Thomas Jordan served as superintendent of colored public schools in Durham and is credited with the construction of 12 new schools between 1923 and 1926, as well as hosting the first commencement exercises in Durham County for African-American students.
