Learn How to Swim with Eagle Aquatics

Eagle Aquatics would like to present the Eagle Family with the opportunity to explore swimming as exercise as well as for leisure, recreational, and therapeutic purposes. We are offering free swim clinics! Swim clinics will be available to all faculty, staff and students.

Free Eagle Swimming Lessons:

 

  • Maximum class capacity: 25 participants
  • Fall semester: September 6 through December 27, 2022
  • Tuesday–Thursday: 5–5:45 pm

Participants will take part in a 45-minute instruction period of basic swimming and water safety lessons.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification Course:

  • Maximum class capacity: 7 participants
  • Guaranteed employment upon successful completion as well as community service hours toward graduation

What to Expect

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course teaches skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services take over.

This class includes lifeguarding, first aid and CPR/AED. Candidates must pass a prerequisite swimming skill evaluation.

Prerequisite Swimming Skills Evaluation

  • 300-yard continuous swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
  • Tread water using legs only for 2 minutes without support or stopping
  • Within 1 minute and 40 seconds, swim 20 yards, surface dive, to 7–10 feet, and retrieve a 10-lb brick. Return to the surface and swim back to the starting point with both hands holding the brick and keeping the face at the surface. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Full Course Dates and Times (must register before August 16)

  • August 18, Thursday: 5–8 p.m.
  • August 19, Friday: 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • August 20, Saturday: 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • August 21, Sunday: 5–8 p.m.
