The Department of Public Health Education is asking the community, along with all NCCU faculty, staff, and students to donate blood at the Fall Blood Drive taking place in the Alfonso Elder Student Union from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 and 9:00 am to 2:30 pm on Thursday, November 21, 2019. There is currently a critical need and if we don't collect more blood, medical procedures will have to be postponed.
Please call 919-530-6422 to schedule an appointment or get the Red Cross Blood App, join the North Carolina Central University team, and complete the Rapid Pass to decrease wait time. You may also schedule your appointment at any time, by visiting redcrossblood.org/make-donation using sponsor code 'NCCU'.
Volunteers working at the drive can still get training by contacting Catherine Smith-Gwinn or Dr. Seronda Robinson. Volunteers must attend the mandatory training. Training will be held on Tuesday, November 19, at 10:40 am in the Miller Morgan Building in room 149.
To have a successful donation, bring a photo ID, drink plenty of water, avoid tea and caffeinated drinks. Also, make sure you eat iron-rich foods such as lean meats, whole grains, and leafy green vegetables along with vitamin C-rich foods such as citrus fruit.
For additional community service hours, come out and join the bone marrow and/or organ donor registry and get education about sickle cell disease and donating cord blood.
Date/Time: Wednesday, Nov 20, 2019 (12:00 to 5:00 pm) and Thursday, Nov 21, 2019 (9:00 am to 2:30 pm).
