Dr. Pia Duncan and Dr. Carol Huynh recently returned from the Hawaii International Conference, where they proudly represented North Carolina Central University and the Criminal Justice Online Program. At the conference, they presented their research titled “From Clicks to Completion: Elevating Online Criminal Justice Learning Through Quality Course Design at an HBCU.”

Their presentation highlighted innovative efforts within the Criminal Justice Department to intentionally create and design a master course aligned with Quality Matters (QM) standards. The research examines how high-quality, intentionally designed online courses impact student engagement, retention, and overall academic success, particularly within an HBCU context.

Drs. Duncan and Huynh shared best practices, challenges, and lessons learned throughout the Quality Matters course development process, emphasizing the importance of fair, accessible, and student-centered online learning environments. Their work underscores NCCU’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, instructional innovation, and student success in online education.

By showcasing this research on an international platform, Dr. Duncan and Dr. Huynh contributed to national and global conversations on online learning, course quality, and the role of HBCUs in advancing effective digital pedagogy within Criminal Justice education.
