Art and Soul: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Teaching Black Music and Art in the Humanities Classroom

Date Published:

The National Humanities Center is partnering with the Ruth J. Simmons Center for Race and Justice at Prairie View A&M University to host the third annual Teaching African American Studies Summer Institute.

This week-long institute will center the works of Black musicians and artisans in the humanities classroom to help students more fully grasp the indispensability of the African American voice to our national history.

This program will provide an immersive, hands-on learning experience to better understand the approaches and historical perspectives required to create and teach African American studies. Each day’s sessions will include readings, viewings, and primary source analysis by expert scholars.
