NCCU is an approved national CLEP Testing Center, through which students may arrange to take examinations in English composition, mathematics, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and history to receive credit and advanced placement in these areas, in total 33 subject areas. Credits awarded through CLEP by accredited institutions will be accepted on the same basis as other transfer credits from those institutions. Credit will be awarded based on minimum scores in the scaled score ranges for the 90-minute General Examinations. Students should get prior approval from his/her department before testing. The cost of the CLEP is $89.00 to be paid to CollegeBoard at the time of registration, and there is no administration fee for NCCU students. Visit the CollegeBoard/CLEP.
The University Testing Center (UTC) was established in 1987 under the Division of Academic Affairs. The Testing Center is nationally certified by the National College Testing Association, and NCCU is the first HBCU in North Carolina to receive such a distinction. In addition, we are the second four-year, public institution in NC to become certified. The NCCU Testing Center is a premier facility that ensures integrity and exam security in the proctoring and examination processes. The Testing Center is a Distance Education Proctoring Center certified by the UNC Online Proctoring Network to proctor exams for all students (e.g., on-campus, off-campus, undergraduate, professional, graduate, and others) who take courses through the UNC Online System. Among the many services provided are the planning, coordination, and administration of placement tests in modern foreign languages (e.g., French, German, and Spanish).
The Center administers over 8,000 assessments annually including nationwide tests to campus students, distance education students, and community candidates. Popular tests include the GRE, the TOEFL, CollegeBoard, and the PRAXIS series. The center administers several computerized placement tests (ACCUPLACER) along with other instructor-designed assessment instruments that also require proctoring by trained personnel in recognized centers. The University Testing Center also provides the facilities, personnel, and testing resources as a satellite test site for several national and international testing agencies such as Scantron, Prometric, and PearsonVUE.
The Computer-Based Testing Center plans, coordinates, and administers standardized computerized tests according to guidelines provided by the testing entity that specify the physical and environmental conditions for test administration. At peak times (e.g., mid-term and final exam periods), the CBT operates outside of its regular hours.
The staff at the Testing Central takes pride in a 98%–100% annual customer satisfaction rating. All staff members are annually certified and undergo continuous professional development throughout the year.
