In the midst of the updates regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), many vendors are providing software resources to support higher education’s significant shift to online learning. Below are the resources and access links.
Internet Connectivity
- Comcast: Offers free Wi-Fi for 2 months to low-income families plus all Xfinity hot spots are free to the public during this time
- Charter: Free internet offer for 2 months
- Charter will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum broadband subscription and at any service level up to 100 Mbps. To enroll, call 1-844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.
- Charter will partner with school districts to ensure local communities are aware of these tools to help students learn remotely. Charter will continue to offer Spectrum Internet Assist, a high-speed broadband program to eligible low-income households that delivers speeds of 30 Mbps.
- Charter will open its Wi-Fi hotspots across its footprint for public use.
- AT&T: Offers open hot-spots, unlimited data to existing customers, and $10/month plans to low-income families
- Sprint: Follows the FCC agreement, provides unlimited data to existing customers, and, starting Tuesday (March 17, 2020), will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge.
- T-Mobile COVID-19 response: Follows the FCC agreement, plus unlimited data to existing customers, and, coming soon, will allow all handsets to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge (I expect others will follow).
Adobe
- Adobe is providing free 90-day access for Adobe Connect until July 1, 2020, with virtual rooms accommodating up to 25 participants.
- Adobe is making temporary at-home access to Creative Cloud available until May 31, 2020, for universities who currently have only lab access for students, at no additional cost.
- Adobe provides a student asset migration portal that enables graduating students to transfer the assets associated with their assigned school account to a personal account.
- Adobe will be sharing a curated set of resources soon on the Adobe Education Exchange website to help faculty with their transition to online instruction.
